Analyzing your GEDmatches 1

You have many of your DNA matches organized by chromosome now. You check the relative age of the matches by looking  at the SNP's (the fewer the SNP's, the older the match).  Should look something like this:

Ethnicity
Family
Name
Matching segments on Chromosome 5

I don't have SNP's for JH, because that is info from FTDNA, and they don't supply that.  I don't have 'gens' for JR, because the relationship is under 700 SNP's that is GEDmatch's cut-off for estimating generations.  Its close though so I can 'guesstimate' 8 gens.
You'll notice that 3 people share DNA with me in about the same area that JC does.  JC's nephew was nice enough to answer my email and share with me that she has an ancestor named Riley, which is on of my ancestor's names.  Also JC is an Xmatch to me,  meaning the matching ethnicity must be English or Ukrainian, as I only have X contributions from those groups.  So I'm going to compare "one-to-one" these 4 with JC and see if they match to her too.
So RJ - yes, 5.2 gens, LB - yes, 5.2 gens, NM - yes, 5.2 gens.
This is what I call "a cluster".  We may all have a common ancestor 5 -7 generations back.
